Brisbane Quaker ArboretumOpen Garden – the Brisbane Quaker Arboretum will be open to the public annually. See the Open Garden Scheme, local media and watch this space for the dates for 2010. This hidden, forested inner-city landscape with diverse species trails will be open as part of the Open Gardens Scheme. The peaceful sanctuary features 100 grand hoop pines, revegetated native woodland and paths bordered by lomandra. The fragrant Backhousia citriodora is a living memorial to the early British Quaker botanist James Backhouse, who walked much of Australia’s landscape gathering samples of trees, bushes and grasses, and leaves us his legacy of Australian plants named ‘Backhousia’.
